Everything is Rugby

The Burnsville Rugby Football Club is an organization that has existed, for over a decade now serving as a sports outlet to highschoolers in the southern twin cities suburbs. The purpose of this sports club is as with all clubs to succeed at athletics; but it approaches this concept in a unique way. The real objective is to spread the wonderful game of rugby as an outlet to young men and woman who may not find success or acceptance in other sports. In the last few years the mens' program has been turning around with a new coach who grew up and played in England. The agency is a non-profit working to spread the pillars of rugby through players to the community such as comradery for teammates and opponents alike, as well as respect for authorities.

Initially joining rugby for more training toward football, after just a few weeks of practice I fell in love with the differences the game had to offer. There is an overall level of respect for coaches and officials unrivaled in American sports. On an international level the ideals and laws of the game are consistently respected and appreciated. This agency was important to me because it involves training these students in more than a game, and molding them into upstanding citizens in a fun and uplifting environment. Rugby enhanced my life by forcing me to work with others to achieve success and budget my time wisely, and I feel these are important values to instill in the young men I have the opportunity to coach.

By coaching with the Burnsville Rugby Football Club I intend to work on my own skills of working with younger athletes and helping them develop athletically and as human beings through a sport that I believe has helped shape me. After school I plan on continuing to coach my entire life so this is a significant learning opportunity for me being able to work under such a skilled and experienced coach for guidance, while still having the responsibility of running the jv team on my own. The responsibility aspect involved will  be invaluable in creating my unique coaching style.
