Project Description

My project concerns one of the major needs of the poor--clothing. It is a necessity, yet many who are living in poverty cannot afford nice clothes, warm clothes, or enough clothes. This is a very important issue, especially as we are going into the winter months. My project is to create a consignment store at Concordia, with clothes donated by students and others and sold at a low price. All of the profits would be given to charity. Left over clothing would be given to a place such as Goodwill, the Salvation Army, or Neighbors Inc. I will begin by volunteering at places such as Goodwill, the Salvation Army, and Neighbors Inc. to learn how such a store would work, and what is necessary to create one.
Another aspect of my project is teaching people to manage their money, to budget, and shop smart. This involves the poor and marginalized in that it aims at the prevention of poverty.
My responsibilities will include those which come with volunteering at various organizations, setting up the consignment store, coming up with a basic guide to budgeting, and making all necessary calls and arrangements involved with all of these. It is necessary that I avoid procrastination, work well with my project partner, and to keep in mind those I am trying to help, and the God for Whom I am working.
