This week in my project I started volunteering at Neighbors. Emma and I learned what our duties would be as volunteers and met the staff there. This week we basically just sorted through the clothing donations and placed them on the racks in the store.
This week I learned a little more about the Clothes Closet in particular. They are very selective about the clothes they sell. When we sort through the clothes we are supposed to exclude any clothing with tears or stains, and any clothing that we think no one would want to buy. I supposed this way they could get better clothes to people for cheap, which is one aspect of our project.
I think I did well on my project this week for the most part. I didn't do much but the volunteering, but it is nice to finally be volunteering.

This week I feel like I made more progress in my project than I have before. I contacted our organization, Neighbors Inc., and we went in for a tour of the site. We saw all the parts of Neighbors, not just the Clothes Closet we are working with.

I feel really good about the project. I feel like it's what God wants right now. We learned that they were looking for people in our exact time slot at the exact time we could start. Its funny how things work out like that sometimes.

I got a better idea of the scope of this project. I knew that we would be working in the So. St. Paul area, but I learned more about the problems unique to the area. So. St. Paul used to be a meat packing district for a little background. In1972, two of the major stockyards in the town got shut down, eliminating over 9,000 jobs. Neighbors was the result of six local churches trying to help the community through this.

This week Emma and I basically just straightened out some things with our project. I contacted Neighbors Incorporated, a non-profit located in South St. Paul. We will be volunteering at their Clothes Closet. It provides clothes to those who need them free of charge. We haven't been there yet but are planning on volunteering Friday afternoons from 1-4.
