The mission of Feed My Starving Children (a Christian based non-profit organization) is to provide meals for malnourished children all over the world. FMSC opens its doors to any volunteers over the age of 5. With an efficient assembly line structure, these volunteer groups are able to package hundreds of meals in just a two hour session. The organization has three types of meals that it packages: MannaPack Rice, MannaPack Potato-D, and Manna-Pack Potato-W. The original meal was MannaPack Rice; it's ingredients are rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and other added vitamins and minerals. This was great to start out with, but some children were having severe diarrhea, and some children were infants too young to eat rice. This is when FMSC developed MannaPack Potato-D and MannaPack Potato-W. These are potato based meal formulas that cater specifically to these needs. Potato-D helps prevent diarrhea, and Potato-W nourishes weaning children in that critical stage of life.
As a Christian, FMSC is an excellent choice of an organization to work with. Since it is a Christian organization the environment will be one of Christian fellowship. This will also allow an opportunity to minister to any volunteers that do not know the Lord, not necessarily by words, but by actions. And most of all, it is an opportunity to work behind the scenes in the grand scheme of feeding God's children.
I've been idle long enough, so I hope that working with FMSC not only acts as an opportunity to act, but that it teaches me how to continue to act even once this volunteer project is over. I want to learn what it truly means to be a servant of Christ, not just from a birds-eye view, but through experiencing it. Other than that, my expectation is to be surprised by what else I will learn.
