"Joyful Noise"

The Choir Concert at Concordia University on December 4, 2011, was both pleasing to the ears and to the soul.  Three different concerts were melded into one so that the audience might enjoy 100 minutes of Christmas Music.  There were performances by Christus and the Jubilate Choir, who sang together and as separate choirs to provide diverse melodies throughout the performance.  The choir directors, string ensembles, dancers, and guest singer also joined the choirs briefly at different intervals for one or two songs.  The Christmas Choir Orchestra played a large role in assisting the singers with music and providing background music and pieces on their own. The theme for the night was "Comfort Ye, My People" and provided Christmas related songs and music. During different parts of the performance the audience was asked to stand and sign with the performing students. To ease the transitions between choirs and instruments, scriptures were read.  The scriptures were read following prophesies that lead up to the birth of Christ.
The Christmas Concert takes on some of the main points of being a Christian, to worship the Lord our God.  Christians are told to make a "joyful noise." The concert tonight made more than a joyful noise and by presenting the beauty of God through music, the choir inspired others to remember God.  The music and scripture lead people to remember why Christ came to earth and why He was born. Christmas is a time to give and receive just like Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful.  But more than anything Christmas is a time to remember Christ. He gave so we could receive.
Being an athlete, I have given very little time in to life to the arts. I have always appreciated the sound of music and the amount of work and passion that people pour into their music. Music is an amazing instrument to relay ones emotion into something beautiful. When people try to decipher what God means and what he can do in our life, they can describe it through music.  The harsh reality is that music is time consuming and a large job to keep up with the grueling pace to become presentable. People watch it and think it's pretty, but rarely think of the price for every line that is sang in the right note. This is also true in Christianity. Very rarely do Christians think about how every blessing came at a price; a price that no one else could have paid but God Himself.
