The Teacher
A lady and a small child lay out on a grassy plain under an aging apple tree. The lady is this girl's mother and holds a large crisp, juicy apple. The mother is Laura and the girl is Rebecca. This is mother and daughter bonding time and both look deep in thought. The mother is teaching her daughter about nature and life. The mother teaches her daughter about how an apple grows on a tree to become a tasty treat and has already taught Rebecca many things. Rebecca asks, "How does the tree grow?" The mother answers, "The tree grows when a seed falls to the ground or someone plants it. When it is watered and grows roots, the tree grows strong. Leaves form and then fall to the ground in the fall. Once the tree has grown strong, it grows juicy apples like this one!" The mother holds up the apple for Rebecca to see. Laura, the mother, then adds, "God made all the living things long ago and he takes care of you and me too. He is always there for us, so we can come to him with all of our problems." Rebecca responds, "But how does God hear us?" The mother answers, "When we call God's name, he listens. This is called prayer; when we speak one on one with God. God may not always answer right away, and doesn't speak in ways we can hear with our ears, but you will always know the answer."
Rebecca says, "It is so pretty here by this pond with you, Momma. Can we just stay here for a long time and eat yummy apples?" Laura responds, "No, we can't honey. We have to get back to daddy! He would miss us if we didn't come back home." Rebecca says quickly, "Oh, I wouldn't want to make daddy sad! I love daddy!" Laura says, "We can come back here some other day. Also, don't forget that God loves you and made all of this. When you remember this place and this time, you can also think about all God does for you. You can also remember this wonderful time we had together!" Rebecca responds, "Thank you Momma! I love you!" "I love you too," says Laura, "Let's go home!"
