Most of you probably don't know that this summer I started on my internship. I was all set up to intern at The Alexandra House. I went through volunteer training and spent about 4 hours every Friday at the shelter. The Alexandra House is a batter women's shelter. When I first started looking at places to volunteer at the end of spring semester, I mainly focused on finding something close to home. Alexandra House is five minutes away from where I live in Blaine. While volunteering at the shelter I did an assortment of tasks. I did everything from filing, child activities, finding homes to house the women and their children for a night. The Alexandra House is very different than most shelters I've seen. They have so many different support services and programs that offer anything from legal aid to babysitters. All of this is sounding too good to be true, right? Well it kind of was, at the end of July I was notified by the Volunteer Coordinater that the shelter had decided on not taking on interns for the fall semester and to focus on offering a new program at the shelter.

This was extremely disappointing news to me. I had worked so hard and put in so many hours. I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy working at the shelter I did, but I was mainly concerned about losing the hours I had put in volunteering. I have close to 40 hours of volunteering. So now I am looking for a new organization to volunteer at, I have looked into PLUS Time and Children's Minnesota Law Center. I know that where ever I volunteer at I want to work with children.  Wel that's all the news I have for now on where I want to volunteer.
