Another Day at Ein-ev

Hi.  This could be short as my battery is dying.  Just another day.  The heat around 9:30am becomes unbearable in my opinion.  It is grind to make itfrom then to noon.

The cooling off in the lake is incredible.  No waves till later in the afternoon. Today we also washed pottery.  I guess the days will now become more routine.  I can access email, but didn't get any.  perhaps mine never went through last night.  But this blog still works.  D.S.

First Day at Work.

Hi again

Well today was the first day at work - wow!  We left at 4:40 am, which wasn't bad since we went to bed around 8:30.

The day started with putting up tarps for tents.  Itended up with Dan's old job, because I was considered tall.  I hung the tarps. Then I was assigned to a team to dig.  We dug, and dug.  We stopped for breakfast about 8:30, and a welcome from the man in charge of the site.  He is happy to have us here working.  Also, many weeds needed to be cleared from the site before we could do anything.

The heat became extreme.  It was 33 degrees about 10:30, but for some odd reason it was 28 when we left at noon.  On arriving back there is little time to clean up, because we need to eat before  the dining hall closes.

Then it was time to cool off in the lake.  We still have a worship service today, a light supper, and then bed.

I hope to still adjust to the heat.  It's wicked.  But that's part of the experience.  Swimming in the sea is incredible.  The water is clear, warm, and waves by the afternoon.

Still no email connections, - sorry, but at least the blog works. I hope Karin is looking at it.

One Hot Day of Touring!

Hi Everyone from Israel!

I woke up this morning to a beautiful day after arriving in the dark.  I walked down to the sea feeling as though I could walk on water.  However, when I tried it, it didn't work. But what an experience to step into it.  It is very low this year.

Today was then spent touring sites around the sea, or as they call it now, a lake.  We then toured the dig site at Hippos.  Then on to where there are preserved ruins of an ancient Byzantine church on the spot where many have thought Jesus cast out the demons into the swine.  Then to Capernaum, where we saw Peter's house.  Then to where the feeding of the 5000 happened, and finally the mount where Jesus gave the Sermon on the mount.

It has been an "overload" so far.  We got back, and went swimming in the lake.  The heat is incredible.  Hot an humid, reminding me much of Hawaii.

Tonight we yet go to a fish market after getting more info about the dig, which starts at 4:40 am.  As far as time, I'm all messsed up!

p.s.  I can't yet get my email, but the bog works.   D.S.  June 28

1 week to go!

Time to leave will soon be here!  I am really excited to go on this trip.  Some say trips to the Holy Land are Life-changing.  I wonder what I will have to say about that at the end?  Hopefully I can let you know at the end of this blog, when the trip is over, if this has been true for me.

Getting Ready to Go!

June 10. (Eli's 11th birthday).  It is now only a few week to go.  I believe I have most of what I need, but there's still lots to do in order to get away.  I can hardly wait to go on such an adventure.  I just saw the latest Indiana Jones movie.  Likely it won't be that exciting, - but then again who knows?

I also just found out that Dan Barr won't be coming along. I am hoping that "blogging" is going to work too - but no guarantees. - D.S.
