Not a lot has been new here, we are just trying to finish things up at the dig site. Today we went out for Jackie and Linda's last night, sadly they will be leaving tomorrow and our team will be down to 10 people!
July 2007 Archives

This is Kristina being crazy in the lab, she has been spent so much time organizing and labeling pottery and artifacts. This whole room was full of pottery pieces!

This is what I had for dinner tonight, usually for dinner we have- fruit, vegtables, hard boiled eggs and cereal. Yum......
We only have one more week of digging after today; the time here has gone by really fast. Tonight we went to Tiberias to shop; Kristina and I were able to find some cool roman looking sandals.

Today we had a ceremony to bury the bones that were found in a tomb at the church in a previous season. Other diggers were invited to attened this ceromony with our team, we read bible passages, sang the doxology, and prayed for those who passed.
This is what we do everyday on the site. Just kidding this was Andrea when we had a water break, Rockin out a column!!!
Today was great; Linda took us to Kursi, Bethsaida, Banias, and a Crusader fortress. I was most impressed with Banias, there are some amazing waterfalls there, as you can see in the pictures. But, when we were at the crusader fortress Kristina Andrea and I ran into a bunch of bats!! That was pretty impressive too!

This was after Banias, we were taking a snack break-This lady was making Zatas( I think that is what they are called) they are tortias that have either chocolate or cheese in the inside. They were pretty good!

Jungle book picture at Banias! This place had amazing waterfalls and wildlife as you can see! This picture includes a tiger, bear, monkey and elephant.

Today we had the day off, I got to sleep in till 9!!! After that I went to the beach with Andrea and Jon, then I shot baskets for a while. Checkout this court!! pretty cool huh??

This was lastnight at the pub, they had a live band there it was a rockin time.
This was yesterday at the dig, we took a group picture before the five left, we will miss them!
It was another good day at the site, Andrea and I decided to stay a little later to finish up some drawing work for Dr.Schuler. Work on the mosaic has been going good, but there is still alot that needs to be done. Sadly tomorrow we will have some team memebers that will be leaving, Jim, Fred and Janet, and Becky and Jacob. So, tonight we are going to the pub to celebrate there time here.
It was another hot day today on the dig site, some days there is usually a breeze but today there was nothing. We made it through though and when I got back to the kibbutz I was able to find a basketball hoop. There is a school nearby and it has and old outdoor basketball court, so I grabbed my basketball and went and shot some hoops today. Later on this evening we swam out on a raft in the sea of galilee and watched the sun go down, it was fabulous.
This past weekend in Jerusalem was amazing; we were able to visit a lot of different sites there in the old city. Some of my favorites were Hezekiah’s tunnel, The Church of Holy Seplchure, and The Jerusalem Archeological Park. During the day we would go on tours and then we would have free time to eat and shop. I got a camel ride when I was in Jerusalem!! Right when I got on the camel it turned its head around and snapped at me, I have to admit I was nervous and a little scared, but the ride ended up being great! (It’s all apart of the experience I guess) Today we were back on the dig site and I was able to start the illustrations of the mosaic. A couple more people have been added to our team so hopefully we will be able to get a lot done this week.
It was another exiting day at the dig today, Andrea Susan and I started to uncover the mosaic (which I will be starting to draw in a couple of days). Jacob found part of a polycandleon- which is a candleholder that was used in the church. When we got back today I was able to sketch a picture of the piece of the polycandelon, I was excited becaue this was the first drawing that I have gotten to do here!!! Things have been going well and I am excited to tour around Jerusalem this weekend.
Today we got to start the dig, which invloved picking weeds, shoveling rocks and drinking ALOT of water. When we were digging up rocks today we found glass, broken potery pieces, and some pieces from a mosaic. When we got back a couple or us went swimming in the sea of Galilee, it was really nice in the water. Later this evening we had a short service and then Kristina, Kevin and I painted pictures of the Sea of Galilee in watercolor.
