Hi all, after meeting with a doctor in Mississippi and having tests run, and then seeing my own doctor in California, it has been decided I had a bad case of food poisoning.  It was the falafyl that made me "feel awful".  Actually the doctor said it would have been OK if I had not had the coleslaw stuff on top.  If anyone can get the message to Efrat, please let her know I was never a  threat to the entire kubbitz (thus the reason Colleen never fell ill).  I asked God to allow me to return to Israel, He did.  I never mentioned any other conditions.  He is faithful and I was allowed to see Israel, understand the people and their struggles better, swim in the Dead Sea.  I guess I can take a cruise later to see the Mediterranean.  What a dig season, I am so grateful to have been there and seen your beautiful faces again.  God's bountiful love to you all.  Tina

Monday

I was released today from isolation.  Yeah!  I moved into the women's house around 10:00 AM.  When everyone got back to the kibbutz I went to lunch with everyone and also did pottery washing.  It was nice to see some of the people that were here last year.  Poor Colleen, some of the guys were teasing her about having an invivible friend.  She had been taking my meals back to me at least twice a day.  Instead of eating at the dining hall today, we went to the Fish restaurant and I had St. Peter's fish.  No, I didn't eat the eyeballs.  I drank 1/2 a pitcher of mint lemonade and ate some french fries.  Very, very good way to celebrate I'd say.  I get to go up to the dig in the morning so I am off early to bed,  Nighty, night.

What's Goin' ON?

Dear family,
I am sorry that it has taken so, so long to let you know what exactly has been
going on. I slept from Monday after dinnertime until Friday morning some time.
My fever was somewhere between 102 and 104 most of that time. We are not sure
as we have no thermometer and when the hospital did take my temperature on
Tuesday, it was 38 C. I am still not sure what that is either. We are just
guessing by the chills, delusions ( I was asking where my sister De was) and a
lot of talking in my sleep. I also wake up completely drenched in sweat like
getting out of a swimming pool.

I have never been this sick in my whole life. The doctor asked how many days I
had been in Israel from the US. By figuring the days out and calling the
Israeli dept of infectious diseases and few other details, they decided to treat
it as the Swine Flu. They made me put on a filter mask and got me in and out as
quickly as possible. I was given two tablets of something, I don't know what?
It would have been over 1 hour before the person in charge of the dig could have
come back and picked us up, so I insisted on a taxi.
TAXI!
It was the first Mercedes I remember riding in and boy was I grateful. After
returning to the kubbitz, I needed to be quarantined for 24 hours longer than
the symptoms last, according to the doctors. Efrat was quick and found an
abandoned school house with good air-conditioning, a refrigerator and bathroom.
The only thing missing is a shower and it is not a far walk. She even gave us a
TV. I never knew it before, but there are at least 4 channels that are
broadcast in English., Discovery, Hallmark and 2 others. So... I've been watching
the TV. You all know how big of a couch potato I am. It took 3 days before I
even turned it on. I found Hallmark the first day and never checked the other
channels. The next day I looked further and found Discovery. Then I got the
bright idea to check all of the channels J

Now the doctors never found out I had been to the Dead Sea, Masada, and Qumran.
I had also been taking an over the counter diuretic for my legs and ankles at
night before going to bed. Like I said on the phone to some of you, it if far
more likely I contracted the West Nile Virus because I had my share of mosquito
bites from Northern CA and MS. I'll contact my Dr. when I get back to the
states and try to figure out just what happened. The hospital did not take a
blood or urine sample, so there is no evidence of what was wrong with me. I do
not know that you can determine either the Swine Flu or the West Nile Virus with
a test. We'll see.

I am hoping to get to the Internet soon so I can write when we have energy. I
am away from the router and cannot just contact you whenever. When I get moved
into the women's house again, I will be in more frequent contact and I am even
going to try to get my BLOG worked on. I am pretty sure Colleen is digging
tomorrow (Sunday). I will not be going though until I feel better.

Love to all of you,
Tina

On Our Way to The Holy Land

We (Colleen and Tina) set out on Tuesday, the 30th of June and flew from Ontario, CA to New Orleans.  Only, we never made it from Dallas Texas to New Orleans.  Instead, we were rerouted to Gulfport, MS where my (Tina) sister De could pick us up.  We could have flown directly to New Orleans, but it would have taken 8 hours of sitting at the airport before we could board.  The flight would have been approx. 21/2 hours.  Instead we got on a flight to Gulfport, MS.

The Purpose of my BLOG FYI

Just an FYI for the serious archeological reader.  The only purpose of this blog is to communicate back home.  If you want detailed facts about items found, measurements, exact descriptions, etc... you'll have to check out the other bloggers.

This site is written by a wife, mom and teacher.  Most of the information posted here is touchy feely kind of stuff and serves as a written diary for my scrapbooking when I get home.  You see, it is difficult to remember where you've been when there's so much to see.

Just a few more days to go and we will be touring Bethlehem and Jerusalem.  I'll meet the rest of you on Monday, the 6th.  Have a safe journey!  God bless you all.

Until about 4 weeks ago I had no idea I would be returning to Israel for the last dig season.  I had actually become resigned to the fact that the economy is rough for everyone and I should sit tight and "play it safe".  When the fellowship conversation at church turned toward the Israel trip, my eyes began to tear up and I was genuinely sad, very sad, I wasn't returning to the Holy Land.

Last year, I did not see the Dome of the Rock, the Mediterranean or the Dead Sea.   Well it looks like Linda Miller, Colleen Janzen , and I will be staying in Bethlehem for 2 days and Jerusalem 3 days before we join the dig.  God is good.

My heart actually aches to go back to Jerusalem.  I cannot explain it.  Once just wasn't enough.  I cannot wait to float on the Galilee again.  Blessed are those that never see, yet believe... but I want to look, see, understand, feel and touch everything.  I said last year, "It looks a lot like California", but it is NOT California.  I cannot wait to return!

God's rich blessings to all of you, safe travel, and see you soon!
