So yesterday around 2AM I got home from Sonshine Festival in Willmar Minnesota, and I thought that I would share some of my experiences. It was such a great time to worship and learn with 20,000+ Christians. I spent most of my time there with Anna Olson, but I also hung out with lots of new and old friends.
Everyone has been asking me who my favorite band was, but I honestly don't know. I liked quite almost all that I listened to too (It may have helped that we got to the front of the crowd every night so we had a clear vision of all the bands). But, I know that Casting Crowns gave a message that I will never forget. Right now they are working on their new Album called "From the Altar to the Door." The main purpose is sharing the witness of how Christians change from the time they are at the Altar to the time they are walking out the door of the Church. Over that little distance, we lose something. Some people lose less than others, but the world is a witness that Christians lose something after they leave the church building. Mark (the main singer) also talked about how the world would be a totally different place if all Christians lived the same way they do on Sunday morning, and how great it would be to see that change.
The message that touched me was from Josh Finklea, the Friday night speaker. He talked about how Christ became dirty so that we could become clean. He then went into how Christians need to first become clean through Christ, and then become dirty to bring others to Him. He said that they way that we become dirty is by talking to the "outcasts" of society and witnessing to the people that others think are "unsaveable." Jesus did it when he touched the leaper, ate with the tax collector, and spoke to the Samaritan woman. He then said that we can go and do the same, and be a witness to all people.
Well, I hope that you all are having a great summer and I will see you in August.
